A Really Late Post from Carl Eisenberg that is All Jason's Fault for Being Tardy

Here's a link that Carl wanted me to share on the blog like 2 months ago. I'm going to try and be more proactive on this thing...we shall see.

Science Fiction's New Reality

"The Hugo Awards have been science fiction's equivalent of the Oscars since 1953. Past winners of the "Best Novel" category include Stephen King, Octavia Butler, Michael Chabon, Isaac Asimov, Orson Scott Card, J.K. Rowling, and Neil Gaiman. This year, author N.K. Jemisin took the top prize for a third year in a row for her novel "The Stone Sky." She's the first writer to win three consecutive Hugo Awards. When she first won in 2016, she was the first black person -- and the first woman of color -- to take the top prize. This year, Jemisin wasn't alone. For the first time, women swept all of the Hugo's major awards, including best short story, best novella, best series and best graphic novel. So how is it that even some sci-fi fans have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century? And if even the most futuristic thinkers need to be prodded to broaden their minds... what does that say about the rest of us?"
